Kaneland Cross Country Memory Books from the Elburn Herald

The Elburn Herald staff is preparing a special memory book for our fall season.  Anyone interested in ordering one can do so by ordering online at kpidesigns.com

This yearbook is $20 for anyone purchasing before Nov. 15.  After that, the price goes up to $25.

Not knowing for sure, as I've never seen one of these before, it would be my guess that they will use photos and articles that were taken and developed by EH employees, as well as those folks who sent pics in to the paper.

Pasta Parties Galore!

Special thanks to the Rawers and Pennington families for hosting a recent pasta party.  We have two more on the calendar to enjoy.

This week, October 4, the Gale Family is teaming up with another (Duffey's?) to host a pasta party.  Please watch for a flyer with details.  Also, the French family has tentatively scheduled a date for October 18th.

Special thanks to all the parents for the support, and the little things you do, to make our team a FAMILY.

Ready to Run!

Enough with the practices, let's run a race!

Just a few days until this crew gets to test itself against West Chicago and Wheaton Academy.  Tuesday the 3rd of September is opening night at Elburn Woods.  Come join us at 4:45pm for the start of something special.

Baggo Tourney Nets Great Turnout and Profits

The team hosted their Baggo tournament on Sunday, and completed the day with 16 youth division teams, and 16 adult division teams.  Winners of the youth division, (and a new set of Baggo boards and bags), were Joey Brandonisio and Jake Obremski.  In the adult division, Mike Pollastrini and Scott Glennon outlasted Phil and Nick Albano to take the cash prize of $250.

The team was the real winner, however.  Raising just over $1,000 on the day, coupled with a victory in the Booster Club Test Drive a few days prior, we will be able to cover the costs of our new varsity uniforms, meet sweat bottoms for the team, and a donation to Marklund Home.

Thank you to every family who came out, donated their time, talent and treasure to make this a complete success.

Marklund Visit a Huge Hit!

The team spent two hours with the clients of Marklund Home in Geneva, getting to tour the facility and play soccer, baseball, and even take a few on nature walks. While we were there, we also had the chance to see the glider/swing that was purchased with the many years of donations that the teams had made to Marklund.  This is a rewarding experience for the clients, because they love the TLC.  It was equally rewarding for our runners, because few have ever had the opportunity to experience giving the gift of time, in this way.  Thank you, runners, for being terrific role models, and for lending a hand to the Marklund Community.

The Marklund Home will host it's first ever 5K on Sunday, October 27th.  We'd like to send some of our runners back to help out with the event. Please let Coach Clarey know if you are interested.

Day One - T-minus 12 Hours!

Can't wait to see everyone in the morning!  A few things families should look for when their runner returns from practice tomorrow:

1.  A Weekly Itinerary:  This is the road map for our week.  Everything we think you should know, SHOULD be on the itinerary.  If not, there's contact info and parents should text, call or email.

2.  A Marklund Waiver:  There is a volunteer liability release and photo waiver that should be signed and brought back at 11:55am for our trip over to Marklund.  Bus leaves at 12:10pm, driven by Coach Ecker.  We will stop at Alice's Place after we finish at 2:30.  Parents can pick up at Alice's, or meet at KHS at about 3:45.

3.  Team Building Day Waiver:  There is a liability release for our trip to Silver Springs on Thursday.  Please have this signed and brought back to Coach Clarey on Thursday morning when we meet at the Sugar Grove BP at 7am.

Right now, we have about 25 athletes preparing for the season... in a few hours, we'll see if there are any surprises.  :)

August 15 - Team-Building Day at Silver Springs

Mail is forthcoming to share details on our Day 2 practice at Silver Springs.  We will spend the day there, with two workouts, some softball and ultimate frisbee, a baggo tournament, breakfast & lunch, plus a trip to Maciano's Pizza in Yorkville for some dinner.  We meet at the Sugar Grove BP gas station at 7am to depart and about 7pm on the return.  Any parents able to help with grilling at lunch, or rides down and back, should contact Coach Clarey via email (chad.clarey@gmail.com).

Watch your mailboxes next week for the specific details and don't forget to complete the permission slip, to be turned in on the first day of practice.

Breakfast Runs Scheduled... 7/27 and 8/3

We have been blessed to have had the opportunity to enjoy Saturday Morning Breakfast Runs with the Park Family and the Gale Family this summer.

Now, we have another pair of Saturday morning runs and feasts:

July 27th - Will Kuipers hosts at his family farm.  1N318 Watson Road in Maple Park, from 7:00-10:30
Runners coming to Will's should remember their manners, and their swimsuit & towel!

August 3rd - Sean Spaetzel will take a turn hosting.  613 Hickory in Sugar Grove, also starting at 7:00.
Once again, if the weather's right... bring your swimsuit and towel.  Manners too, please.

Big thank you to all our families who have hosted the runners this summer.  It's a treat for the team to have this chance to run, eat and bond.

First Day of Practice Is Set! August 14 @ 7am

We will start our season on Wednesday, August 14 at 7am in the cafeteria at KHS.  Please be prepared to run by having your up-to-date physical paperwork turned in, or in your hand.  We will run at the bike path, and return to KHS around 9:15 or so.

SAME DAY!  We head to Marklund for our annual visit with the clients.  The team will board a bus with Coach Ecker at 12:15pm sharp.  After our visit with these wonderful adults, we will head over to Alice's Place for a snack.  Should be done around 3:30 or 4pm, back at KHS.

July 8 Practice is On, BUT BE PREPARED!

This morning's run at Waubonsee will be on as scheduled, however when we see lightning, remember that practice ends.  High school runners may return to KHS for weights.  Middle school runners should have rides available in the event the weather limits our fun.

We are ON! For now...

Coach Ecker believes that the heavy band of rain and storms that are approaching from the west will not arrive until after 8am.  We will meet to run at Lily Lake today, but with our eyes on the skies.  IF LIGHTNING IS IN THE AREA, we will not run.  Therefore, please choose for yourselves, if this is a day you'd like to make the long trek up to Lily Lake.  I will be there at 6, and we will run shorter distances out and back today, so that we can beat any kind of weather that might spring up.  If possible, those of you who do not drive yourselves should try and keep your ride in the area, and plan to be done around 7:15am.  We'll get a workout in, as best we can, but within the boundaries of student safety.

Monday Morning - RADAR LOOKS IFFY

Summer Runners,

The current radar looks pretty colorful.  Coach Clarey will be heading up to Waubonsee this morning to meet and greet anyone who shows up.  It looks imminent that we're going to get some rain and storminess from the current model on the Doppler.

Suggestion would be that for now, if you don't have a ride out of camp if and when a storm rolls through at 7am, DON'T COME!  We will reconvene on Wednesday morning at 6am, on the bike path.

Don't forget, Juniors and Seniors, that we still have a Kid's Camp to work tonight at 5pm.

KANELAND KIDS CAMP CANCELED FOR TONIGHT!

Given the anticipated weather, and the red and yellows on the radar, we are going to cancel tonight's Kid's Camp.  Our next date to meet will be Monday, June 17 at 5pm.  We'll play our own version of the Stanley Cup!  See you then.  Good luck tonight with the storms.
